If you have a move coming up, whether it be a home or office move, we’ve put together a rough moving timeline to keep you on track. In order to have a successful and stress-free move, you should start preparing no later than 8 weeks in advance. This time will eliminate a lot of stress and worry as it will allow you to be prepared and organized way in advance.
8 Weeks Before Your Move
8 weeks before your move is all about being organised. Use a folder or ring-binder to keep important documents in. This means that you won’t need to search through boxes when you’re looking for that all-important document during the move. 8 weeks in advance is also the best time to start conducting research on available moving companies in your local area.
7 Weeks Before Your Move
At this point in the moving process, you should begin sourcing packing material such as boxes, tape, bubble wrap and other moving resources. There are a number of shops and websites – including many moving companies – that can provide you with high-quality packing materials. You should also know exactly what you want to keep and get rid of, so you may want to plan a house or garage sale or drop things off at your local charity shop.
6 Weeks Before Your Move
Now is the time to alert ay schools, doctor surgeries and utility providers of your new address.
5 Weeks Before your Move
It’s at around the 5 week mark that you should be ready to book the moving company that you like the look of the most.
4 Weeks Before Your Move
You should now begin packing non-essential items. These are the things you won’t need access to right away. However, items such as toothbrushes, important paperwork and day-to-day items shouldn’t be packed at this point. Always remember to label boxes accordingly to save confusion later down the line.
3 Weeks Before Your Move
Look through your kitchen cupboards and establish what food you have left and try and use it so it doesn’t go to waste. Try and have nothing left in your freezer or cupboards by the time it comes to moving day. At this stage, you should also make arrangements for pets and plants – do they need to go somewhere while you move?
2 Weeks Before Your Move
Pack, pack, pack! The big moving day is not far away and will sneak up on you in no time, so you must pack as much as possible since you only have 2 weeks to go.
1 Week Before Your Move
Pack a suitcase with the things you will need access to quickly and easily while the move is underway. Chances are, you won’t be able to get to a lot of your items that have been packed away in boxes and bags.
Work with your chosen movers to help them conduct your home or office move as smoothly as possible.
